the idea of Virginia Wine

An Exploratory Wine Tasting Featuring Creative And NontraditionAL Makers

AND/CO. is an uncommon wine experience.  Think all things unconventional: aromatized oddities, peculiar blends, unanticipated co-ferments, and alternative fermentables.

Expect the unexpected.  Embrace the strange.  Explore the peculiar.  AND/CO. expands the definition of what wine is and what it means to make it.

& CONCEPTs

Hybrid Grapes

A hybrid variety has a lineage that is part-American and part-European. They’re naturally resilient against Virginia's disease pressures — an important distinction as our climate changes.

Other Fruits

Not all wine is made from grapes! Expanding our concept of wine can be means leaving behind the idea that other fruits, or even multiple fruits, don't belong in the bottle.

Co-Fermentation

Collaboration at the fermentation level. By allowing grapes (or other fruits) to co-ferment, they take on a unity of their own, expressing something new and different.

Creative Blends

Too much tradition closes doors and limits creative potential. We can realize new beauty by breaking conventional paradigms.

Aromatized

The layered approach to winemaking: first make a wine and then infuse it with all sorts of different plants, seeds, barks, and more. Complexity is a virtue, not a vice.

What to Expect

This isn’t your typical wine fair.  Nestled amidst the tanks of Common Wealth Crush’s winery, you’ll find some of Virginia and D.C.’s most notable creatives.  Meet the makers, try their wines.  Bring lots of questions. This is a chance to engage with winemakers on a deeper level. Bottle sales available with each producer.

Plant-based bites provided by Charlottesville-based Botanical Fare.

Check out Common Wealth Crush’s tasting room or Basic City Beer Co. (in the same building) for continued post-event adventures.  There’s plenty of dining options nearby, as well.

Bottle CONCIERGE

Filling up a case but short on hands? We got you.
As you explore the lineup, our bottle concierge will collect your bottles and box them up for you. You’ll pay each producer directly for what you’d like and collect your purchases when you leave the winery. Just stop by the concierge table to retrieve your wines.

raison d'être

The goal of AND/CO. is to illuminate the margins of the Virginia wine industry because we believe these producers, concepts, and people are the future.

The ticket price is set to cover the costs of the event. Should there be any proceeds from this event, they are distributed among the producers participating to encourage further innovation and experimentation.
